At the time of the Centenary of the birth of the town of Malo les bains (Dunkirk) various demonstrations will be organized.
The Association of the Fishermen of the Dunkirk Littoral (APLD)], the Dunes of Flandres-> and opalesurfcasting.net organize a surf casting marathon on June 30, 2007.
This marathon will celebrate a high tradition in Dunkirk-Malo les bains since several generations: shore fishing.
It’s very simple, the competitors fight over 10 hours of fishings per team of 2 using 2 rods in 2 five hours match.
This marathon is opened to all.

17h30 : reception of the teams at the base de la licorne up to 6 p.m. and welcome drink.
18h00 : Briefing of the teams on rules of the competition (French Sea fishing Federation FFPM rules) - It’s simple - PARTICIPATION REQUIRED
18h30 : team places drawing of lots
till 20h00 installation of the competitors
20h00 : Start of competition, First Match.
1h00 : End of first match and beginning of second match
6h00 : End of second match and end of competition.
6h30 : Dunkirk typical breakfast
from 7h30 : Results and awards.
Some of the rules are:
respect of the legal sizes of fish (IMPERATIVE!! possibility of disqualification), the members of the APLD will be there to help you to avoid the misidentifyings. The fish exceeding the legal size could be keepted.
all the fish lower of 45 cm will be measured and given to water, except if you wish to keep a fish exceeding the legal size for your personal consumption. They will be entered according to equivalence size/weight of IFREMER abacus.
number of rods per team: 2 rods (1 rod by fisher) - possibility of having other rods in reserve, nylon passed in the rings but without attached rig.
Cast from the beach (go in water to cast is prohibited)
Three hooks max for one rig
No baits limitation, chumming, feeding prohibited.
Respect of the beach, its cleanliness, and the users.

Some fishing facts:
The fishing spot is a usual place for seabass feeding. You will catch other fish like the sole, the flat fish in general. The eel should also be quite present. The pouts also be presents at nights.
The local fishermen generally use simple rigs with 3 snoods, the last one, near the sinker, flowing.
The usually used baits are lugworm, whites, ragworms, maddies and peeler crabs.
